Does My Small Business Need a Blog?

Yes is the answer. You do need a business blog. Think about why you have a website? Is the answer to attract clients, create brand awareness and to advertise online? A blog is an extension of this. It is yet another time consuming task when small businesses are already laden down with jobs that are not directly earning money for them. But it is definitely a worthwhile task. This post will lay out the most important reasons for having a blog on your business site.

Driving Traffic

The number one reason your business needs a blog is to drive traffic. While your website is the hub of your online presence, it is a static, unchanging thing. Adding a blog will increase the content on your website bit by bit and each time you add a blog post you have an opportunity to optimise it for search engines to find your business more easily. This leads to more potential customers finding your website and that can only be a good thing.

 

Ranking Higher in Search Engines

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is preparing your content in as best a format as possible so that engines such as Google, Bing, etc. can find your site when a search term is typed into them. Adding regular updates to your site in the form of blogposts, keeps your site current and keeps your ranking high for your main keywords.

In order to be taken seriously in your industry, you need to show your audience that you know what you’re talking about. Blogging about topics important to your area will drive home that you are an authority in your field. Presenting well written, useful information to your audience may well turn them into clients.

Blogging for business is a gift that keeps on giving. It helps you rank better in search engines, shows what a swot you are on your given topic, adds value to your prospective clients and drives that longed for traffic to your website. Not only does it do all this, it also builds on your website, turning it into a knowledge base for your industry. Each individual blog post can show up in search engines, giving you more chances to be discovered by potential customers. It can be so difficult to find the time, but it is definitely worth it.
